Born on November , 1844 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cherokee Fisher (William Charles Fisher) played for the Rockford Forest Citys, Baltimore Canaries, Philadelphia Athletics, Hartford Dark Blues, Philadelphia White Stockings, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Stockings and Providence Grays over the course of his 8 year career. Fisher broke into the bigs on May 6, 1871 with the Rockford Forest Citys, and put up a 4.35 ERA in 213 innings pitched in 1871, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Cherokee Fisher's best season was 1875, when he posted a 1.91 ERA and won 22 games.
