Charlie Gelbert (Charles Magnus Gelbert) was born on January 26, 1906 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1929 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1929, his rookie year, he hit .262 with 3 home runs and 65 RBI. Gelbert played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Charlie Gelbert's best season was 1930, when he hit for a .304 average and knocked in 72 runs.
