Born on June 14, 1861 in Fall River, Massachusetts, Charlie Buffinton (Charles G. Buffinton) played for the Boston Red Caps, Boston Beaneaters, Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Reds and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 11 year career. Buffinton broke into the bigs on May 17, 1882 with the Boston Red Caps, and put up a 3.03 ERA in 333 innings pitched in 1883, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Charlie Buffinton's best season was 1884, when he posted a 2.15 ERA, won 48 games and struck out 417 batters.
