Charley Smith (Charles William Smith) was born on September 15, 1937 in Charleston, South Carolina. He made his Major League debut on September 8, 1960 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 1961, his rookie year, he hit .248 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI. Smith played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Charley Smith's best season was 1965, when he slugged 16 home runs and knocked in 62 runs.
