Born on June 8, 1919 in Anacortes, Washington, Charley Schanz (Charles Murrell Schanz) played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 5 year career. Schanz broke into the bigs on April 20, 1944 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 3.32 ERA in 241.1 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Charley Schanz's best season was 1944, when he posted a 3.32 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 84 batters.
