Charley Bassett (Charles Edwin Bassett) was born on February 9, 1863 in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He made his Major League debut on July 22, 1884 for the Providence Grays. In 1885, his rookie year, he hit .144 with 0 home runs and 16 RBI. Bassett played for the Providence Grays, Kansas City Cowboys, Indianapolis Hoosiers, New York Giants and Louisville Colonels over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Charley Bassett's best season was 1891, when he knocked in 68 runs.
