Born on April 20, 1880 in Cleveland, Ohio, Charlie Smith (Charles Edwin Smith) played for the Cleveland Broncos, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 10 year career. Smith broke into the bigs on August 6, 1902 with the Cleveland Broncos, and put up a 2.91 ERA in 235.1 innings pitched in 1906, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Charlie Smith's best season was 1907, when he posted a 2.61 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 119 batters.
