Chargers Looking at 08

Going into next year, the San Diego Chargers are the early Super Bowl favorites. The average fan was most likely looking to next year and a Super Bowl win as a way to get over this years tough loss. And all that went up in smoke when Marty Schottenheimer was fired by Dean Spanos. There is no way a team can win a Super Bowl with no returning coaches. No matter how good the players on the field. It will take a whole new staff at least a year to be ready to make a championship run, if not longer. Memo to Dean Spanos; it wasn't Marty's fault the Chargers lost to the Patriots, no matter what his career playoff record is. The players on the field just didn't make plays when they had to. Dropped balls all over the place, not to mention a fumbled pick converting the Patriots fourth down try and keeping them alive.
This once again proves why Dean Spanos and AJ Smith have no business running an NFL franchise. Four of the top 5 worst run sports franchises are in the NFL. Cardinals, Lions, Raiders, Pirates (MLB), and the Chargers. AJ Smith and Dean Spanos are a cancer to this football team. Any word on that new stadium Mr. Spanos? Getting lucky with two draft picks in LT and Gates doesn't prove competence. Getting rid of Drew Brees cost San Diego the Super Bowl this year. Who decides to cut loose a Pro Bowl quarterback who was the best in football this year in favor of basically a rookie? As good as Rivers is, Brees would have completed the puzzle this year.
And now this. After getting rid of one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Spanos ditches a miracle worker in Schottenheimer. He must have forgotten life before Marty. That back in the day, 3 wins was a solid season for the Chargers. Most people thought it would be 2010 before the Chargers even though playoffs. But Marty took them twice. 14-2 is a world away from 2-14 but Dean must have forgotten the old days. And how quickly they could return.
The San Diego Union-Tribune, reported that Schottenheimer was fired after trying to interview his brother, Kurt, for the team's now empty defensive coordinator post. Spanos and Smith didn't approve of the move, but Schottenheimer reportedly insisted that he had the right to hire the whatever staff he felt he wanted. And why not? This looks to be turning to a Matt Millen type situation, and it needs to be saved. Quick name me a San Diego Chargers coach. Don't worry your not dumb, its just that there are no coaches in San Diego right now. And the combine is a week away. This season is already going to waste, and its just the combine. Like Millen in Detroit, or Al Davis in Oakland, Spanos wants total control. And he shouldn't have it, because its not his job. He has proven in the past, and again yesterday, he shouldn't make these decisions because he doesn't have a clue.
