Born on March 13, 1875 in White Hall, Illinois, Chappie McFarland (Charles A. McFarland) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Superbas over the course of his 5 year career. McFarland broke into the bigs on September 15, 1902 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.07 ERA in 229 innings pitched in 1903, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Chappie McFarland's best season was 1904, when he posted a 3.21 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 111 batters.
