Champ Summers (John Junior Summers) was born on June 15, 1946 in Bremerton, Washington. He made his Major League debut on May 4, 1974 for the Oakland Athletics. In 1979, his rookie year, he hit .291 with 21 home runs and 62 RBI. Summers played for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Champ Summers's best season was 1979, when he slugged 21 home runs, hit for a .291 average and knocked in 62 runs.
