Boise State's wrestling program had a very strong recruiting class two seasons ago. After redshirting many of their incoming signees, including Junior National Greco-Roman champion Eli Hutchison of Alaska and Junior National Freestyle Champion Adam Hall from Bonner's Ferry upstate, the Broncos coaching staff wasn't done.
On Monday, InterMat was informed that Junior National Freestyle Champion and Greco-Roman runner-up Jason Chamberlain of Springville, Utah has verbally committed to wrestle at Boise State.
"We feel that Boise State has everything Jason needs to be successful," said Jason's mother Christine in an e-mail to InterMat on Monday. "He fits in with the team and is good friends with all the guys, and being a part of this winning team will give Jason a chance to compete for a national title. (individual and team title.) He will have a lot of support to leave on a 2 year LDS mission during his college years."
Boise's no stranger to accepting athletes that take the LDS (mormon) missions during their college careers. Starting 125-pounder Andrew Hochstrasser is set to return to Boise next season after he completes his two-year mission and Michael Cuthbertson of Scottsboro, Ala., took his mission first, and will also make his residence in Boise when it is completed.
In 2006, Boise State crowned its second NCAA champion as Colorado native Ben Cherrington won the title at 157 pounds.
