Celtics Lose :-(

Well, I hate to say I told you so (seriously, I do), so I won't, but just moments ago, the Boston Celtics dropped their first game of the season to a team that can actually play - the Orlando Magic.

Now, I won't get carried away since it was just one loss, but it was a loss to a strong team from the East, a team that is now 9-2 to the Celtics 8-1, but you probably haven't heard too much about that from the media. Luckily, ESPN.com and NBA.com (among others) post the other teams' standings so us regular folk can know what other teams not getting media attention are doing.

The Celts were actually down by 17 at the start of the second half and came back in the second, but they came up short. They've had a few of these late rallies, but I guess that streak ended along with their perfect record. Ray Allen was 7-13 (2-8 from 3-point line), KG 7-17, and Paul Pierce 10-17. All 5 starters had 3 turnovers apiece. Most of these seemingly came in the 4th quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Allen scored 11 of his 19. The other 2/3 of the Big 3 disappeared, with KG scoring only 2 points and Pierce scoring 4. KG had a good look at a 3-pointer but he missed that, too.

This is on the heels of ESPN's NBA page headline about top 3-somes in the league, with the feature photo depicting you know who. Actually, writer Marc Stein has them as the third best trio behind trios from the Spurs and the Suns, so I'll give him his propers for attempting to preserve the integrity of ESPN.

I'm interested to hear what you all think this loss says, if anything, about the Celtics, and their chances of winning the NBA championship, the Eastern Conference Finals, their next game, the lotto . . .

Even the 1996 Bulls lost some games, give me a break. Coming back from down 20 on the road to have a shot to win the game when KG was off... I don't think Doc Rivers is too pissed off about the loss

Yeah, that wasn't the first game they'd played against a solid opponent. The Celtics also dropped 7-3 Denver.

True, I discussed in my first article that Denver was the only team above .500 that they had beaten. I was saying this was their first loss period, and it happened to be to a good team. The Nuggets are good, but I don't know about solid. I'd equate their stability to a sandcastle: Good for a little while, but you just never know when a wave will come and knock them over.

Let me be the first to remind you that Orlando plays in the East. Translated - they aren't that good. And as long as Doc Rivers is coaching the C's, I will remind everyone that the Celtics are also just another team in the East - AND IT'S NOVEMBER!!!

Wow! The Celtics lost. So unexpected... NOT! I knew they were going to lose eventually. They had a hard fought game and were down BIG at the end of the first half. They came back in the 3rd and 4th quarters though and ALMOST won. ALMOST, but almost doesn't count. They lost by 2. Great game, but Garnett and Allen didn't do as well as the Celts hoped, as they scored a combined 33 points out of the 102. Final score: 104-102.

58-41 at the end of the 2nd quarter (17 point lead). They cut it down to 7 by the end of the 3rd. Really, it WAS a hard fought game by the Celtics, but Orlando, led by Dwight Howard, who is an absolute BEAST, is on a tear. 9-2!? Not bad, not bad AT ALL.

Actually the Cs looked bad...Ray Allen played poorly and Paul Pierce had a chance to hit the game tying lay-up, but elected to take an ill-advised three to win it (down by 2 at the time)... I think Doc Rivers just gave up...

They played really bad the first half, but still, the Celtics must've played decently in the 2nd half to narrow the game down to 2, unless the Magic played like the suckiest team ever...

Big deal. That's like talking about which team is the best in the NFC, or the NL.

Well, an NL team DID beat an AL team in the 2006 World Series in 5 games, ASwaff... if THAT means anything to you.

They need to pronounce the word "Celtics" correctly. It should be pronounced "Keltics" instead of "Seltics."
