Born on October 22, 1942 in Spearsville, Louisiana, Cecil Upshaw (Cecil Lee Upshaw) played for the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 9 year career. Upshaw broke into the bigs on October 1, 1966 with the Atlanta Braves, and put up a 2.47 ERA in 116.2 innings pitched in 1968, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Cecil Upshaw's best season was 1969, when he posted a 2.91 ERA, notched 27 saves and struck out 57 batters.
