George Metkovich (George Michael Metkovich) was born on October 8, 1920 in Angel's Camp, California. He made his Major League debut on July 16, 1943 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1943, his rookie year, he hit .246 with 5 home runs and 27 RBI. Metkovich played for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Braves over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that George Metkovich's best season was 1944, when he hit for a .277 average and knocked in 59 runs.
