[edit] Biography

Born on April 8, 1946 in Hertford, North Carolina, Catfish Hunter (James Augustus Hunter) played for the Kansas City Athletics, Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees over the course of his 15 year career. Hunter broke into the bigs on May 13, 1965 with the Kansas City Athletics, and put up a 4.26 ERA in 133 innings pitched in 1965, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Catfish Hunter's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1974, when he posted a 2.49 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 143 batters. However, others believe that it was 1972, when he posted a 2.04 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 191 batters.
