[edit] Rivalries
The Gophers are involved in two of the most historic rivalries in all of college football and several others, in fact. Here is a list of the trophy games the Minnesota football team plays:
- The Gophers and Wisconsin own the oldest rivalry in all of Division I-A college football, and play each year for Paul Bunyan's Axe.
- Minnesota and Michigan play for the Little Brown Jug, the oldest trophy game in college football.
- The Gophers and their neighbors to the south, Iowa play for the Floyd of Rosedale.
- Most recently, the Gophers and Penn State began an annual trophy game in which they fight for the Governor's Victory Bell.
