The Atlantic Sun Conference was founded on September 19, 1978. Formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference, the A-Sun changed its name in June of 2001.
Bill Bibb became the A-Sun's third full-time commissioner when he took the reigns in October of 1991. Bibb followed Lou McCullough (1983-91) and Bob Vanatta (1979-83). The A-Sun office has been in Macon, Georgia, since April, 1992, after relocating from Athens, Georgia (1983-1992). The first office was located in Shreveport, Louisiana (1979-1983).
