Carmelo Martinez (Carmelo (Salgado) Martinez) was born on July 28, 1960 in Dorado, Puerto Rico. He made his Major League debut on August 22, 1983 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1984, his rookie year, he hit .250 with 13 home runs and 66 RBI. Martinez played for the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Carmelo Martinez's best season was 1985, when he slugged 21 home runs and knocked in 72 runs.
