Carlos Pena (Carlos Felipe Pena) was born on May 17, 1978 in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional (Dominican Republic). He made his Major League debut on September 5, 2001 for the Texas Rangers. In 2002, his rookie year, he hit .242 with 19 home runs and 52 RBI. Pena played for the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays (Tampa Bay Rays) over the course of his career.

  • Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1st round (10th pick overall) of the free-agent draft (June 2, 1998 - signed July 24, 1998).
  • Traded from the Texas Rangers along with Mike Venafro to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Jason Hart, Gerald Laird, Ryan Ludwick, and Mario Ramos (January 14, 2002).
  • Traded from the Oakland Athletics along with Franklyn German to the Detroit Tigers as part of 3-team trade in which the Detroit Tigers sent cash to the Oakland Athletics; the New York Yankees sent Ted Lilly, Jason Arnold and John-Ford Griffin to the Oakland Athletics; the Detroit Tigers sent Jeff Weaver to the New York Yankees (July 5, 2002); and the Oakland Athletics sent Jeremy Bonderman to the Detroit Tigers to complete the transaction (August 22, 2002).
  • Released by the Detroit Tigers (March 26, 2006).
  • Signed by the New York Yankees (April 15, 2006).
  • Released by the New York Yankees (August 16, 2006).
  • Signed by the Boston Red Sox (August 17, 2006).
