Born on June 6, 1931 in Cherryfield, Maine, Carl Willey (Carlton Francis Willey) played for the Milwaukee Braves and New York Mets over the course of his 8 year career. Willey broke into the bigs on April 30, 1958 with the Milwaukee Braves, and put up a 2.70 ERA in 140 innings pitched in 1958, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Carl Willey's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1963, when he posted a 3.10 ERA and struck out 101 batters. However, others believe that it was 1958, when he posted a 2.70 ERA and struck out 74 batters.
