Carl Thomas (Carl Herbert Thomas) was born on March 2, 1897 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Central (Philadelphia, PA) and Frankford (PA), Thomas attended the University of Pennsylvania. Thomas made his professional debut in the APFA in 1921 with the Rochester Jeffersons. He played in the APFA for 1 year, playing for the Rochester Jeffersons the entire time. Thomas also played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Buffalo All-Americans the entire time.
