Carden Gillenwater (Carden Edison Gillenwater) was born on May 13, 1917 in Riceville, Tennessee. He made his Major League debut on September 22, 1940 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1945, his rookie year, he hit .288 with 7 home runs and 72 RBI. Gillenwater played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves and Washington Senators over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Carden Gillenwater's best season was 1945, when he hit for a .288 average and knocked in 72 runs.
