Cappie Pondexter
[edit] BiographyCappie Pondexter was born on January 7, 1983, in Oceanside, California. She attended John Marshall High School in Illinois, where she was named the 2001 Illinois Player of the Year by Gatorade and USA Today. She was the first player in state history to be Illinois Miss Basketball twice (2000, 2001). In high school, she got a tattoo of the WNBA logo on her left arm with the words "The Future" written above it. She attended college at Rutgers University, where she lead the Scarlet Knights to back-to-back Big East Championships in 2005 and 2006. After graduation, she was selected second in the 2006 WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury. As a rookie, she was named to the 2006 Western Conference All-Star team. She made the team again in 2007. That year, she helped the Mercury to their first WNBA title. She was named 2007 WNBA Finals MVP after averaging 22 points per game in the five-game series against the Detroit Shock.
