The Capital One Bowl is an annual college football bowl game played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. It was previously named the Tangerine Bowl from 1947-1982 and the Florida Citrus Bowl from 1983-2002, and is now named for its corporate sponsor.
[edit] History
The bowl has featured many different match-ups throughout the years, fielding teams from the Southeastern Conference, the Mid-American Conference, and even the Ohio Valley Conference in its early days. It is one of the oldest of the non-Bowl Championship Series bowls and is arguably one of the most prestigious of non-BCS bowls too. It currently has the first selection after the BCS chooses its participants, usually selected the two best teams available from the SEC and Big Ten.
The bowl was considered a minor bowl from 1947-1967.
