Cannonballs: Focus on What Went Right

That shall be my mantra for this past weekend. What indeed did go right?
Well many things actually. First off I went up to my mother's house to spend Saturday and Sunday. The food as always was superb, chicken cordon bleu when I arrived at noon on Saturday and ribs on Sunday prior to my returning home later that day. I was also able to complete some very important maintenance items. About a month ago I did the measuring so she could go and order new window blinds for the kitchen. So job one was take down the old ones. The first blind was a total bear as it is positioned directly over the kitchen sink. I was fortunate in that I only banged my head once against the decorative woodwork that is strategically placed over the sink area, focus on what went right, just a knot on my head but no blood. The old blind came down and the new one went up amazingly quick. Due to my fine measuring skills I didn't even have to drill new holes for the mounting brackets. The second window which looks out over the backyard went even quicker. The second major task was to install a handrail for the steps leading into the basement. I had purchased a new stud finder for this job as the one I had previously used was just a piece of cheap crap. The new much more robust stud finder performed brilliantly and the handrail went up without a hitch besides a bit of sweat when screwing the thing into the wall.
The Penguins went right this weekend as well. A fantastic victory over the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout with young defenseman Kristopher Letang scoring the winning shootout goal for a second straight game. This had to be one of the best games, in any sport, that I had seen all year long. My Mom was only able to make it through the second period before she was too tired to stay up any longer. She went to bed and I joyously filled her in on the details over Sunday breakfast.
Sunday went right as well. I arrived home and received a call from the Missus and she stated that it would really be helpful if I could return this small petit Christmas Tree which she had purchased earlier in the day to the Home Depot. Oh, and could I be a real dear and pick her up a cable for the new printer I had bought her for her birthday. The return of the tree went smoothly, no questions asked, got the money back and the new cable was purchased. I also found I had enough time to install her new printer before she arrived home. After that we went to Lowe's in Robinson Township and purchased the tabletop Christmas Tree we had looked at the previous weekend. What went right about this new tree was that when we returned home the Missus found a charming brass pot to place it in, it fit perfectly and it now looks very Christmassee in the foyer.
Oh, Arsenal lost to Middlesbrough 2-1. That didn't go right. Since the match was on Setanta I didn't have to see it. If I had not gone to my Mother's house I would have gone to the pub to watch it. If I had watched it I would be in a very glum and dour mood so it seems fate worked out and I get to focus on what went right. Hooray, nuts.
