very fitting for #3000. That Ovechkin play takes no skill. What I was originally looking for is one of the goals that is scored every year where a guy fires a slap shot when the puck is waist high. Basically, he play baseball, while on skates, with a goalie, and someone trying to take his head off. You know, the stuff we see little girls doing on figure skates.
Video game hockey is weird. As technology has gotten better the games have gotten worse. Hockey video games peaked with Sega Genesis. I was in the NHL store they other day and they had NHL '08 for the 360 and it was amazing to watch, but not very fun to play.
It's certainly the most realistic across the genre; compared to football (4th & 22? I'm going for it...), baseball - too much controlling the play = crappier play and lots of rundowns, and basketball - where 80% FG shooting is subpar...
My cousins (10 and 8 year old girls) do all this stuff when they play hockey. It's a B.S. sport, and it's not a sport, it's a hobby. And everybody hates it.
Look, whether male or female, if his cousins can do the stuff in the videos they are gonna be playing in the NHL. Especially if they can fight like in that last video!
I missed the fun (damn job interviews!) but hockey is the mast athletic sport there is. Only fools dis-agree. Hate the sport if you want, but do not deny what it takes to play it.
I'm not going to call Hockey easy, mainly because i don't skate very well, but it is just plain iggnorant to tell me that a guy on skates sprinting down the ice for 45 seconds then sitting is more athletic then anything a soccer player does running for 90 minutes with only a 7-10 halftime in the middle. Your arguement of hockey being more athletic then soccer would be foolish.
Okay so you make the arguement Steel Town, instead of picking on my statement: How is hockey not only more athletic then soccer, how is it the most athletic sport period?

Well, I don't recall saying hockey was the most athletic sport. And I wasn't trying to start a pissing contest, I simlply gave you somewhere to look to see what actual scientist, doctors and sportswriters though about the subject. But if we must, I would say the only thing in Soccer that is tougher than hockey is the endurance. Of course you have understand that the defensmen are getting a rest when the ball is deep in the offensive zone in soccer where as in hockey the defense is also important on offense. Did you ever wonder why hockey players have to take a break every 30 seconds. So I would say soccers only more athletic attribute is not very far ahead. You can throw hand eye coordination out the window. I would say in general hockey players are far more strong and powerful than soccer players. Hockey is a much faster game requiring much faster decision making skills and reaction times. And finally, Hockey is played outside of a natural environment for sports.

As far as your arguement that Soccer's defenders get a rest that would be narrow minded or illinformed. Defender in soccer, at least at a level higher then 13 year olds is a position that iniates offense, usually wing defenders are the most active players on the field flying up and down the sideline. Their main job is make the pitch as wide as possible and to run midfielders tired with overlaps. They are usually the most active and can only be outmatched in their involvement of the game by the central midfielder.
I can't argue the hand-eye part of this, minus the goalkeepers who from expereince go through workouts that can only be matched by boxers and wrestlers as far as intensity goes.
However I believe that foot-eye is even more difficult to achive then hand eye coordination. It is unnaturally to move a ball with your feet with running full speed, add to it the nearly as fast reaction times required and the physical nature of displacing people from the ball. I would say that moving the ball and keeping it under control is more difficult then controlling a puck.
Some controversial reports and studys have been made on Hockey by some writers, doctors and researchers. However some researchers and doctors also support Al Gore's global warming data as fact, but we don't take their blanket statements as truth. You can see reality with your eyes, not your ears.
I couldn't agree more with your final paragraph. Regarding the story I told you about, it said boxing was the most athletic but had wrestling in fifth behind hockey and basketball, and I don't understand that. I would pick wrestling as the toughest sport. I Played soccer and I wrestled.
I took out my statement about foot eye coordination, but what I was going to say is that I don't know which is tougher, acrobatic skating or playing soccer. They both really require a lot of foot eye coordination.

Thanks you MJD for restoring some sanity... Hockey is such an underrated sport, and it's pathetic that someone could call it garbage. Just watch the playoffs, that is seriously the most exciting professional postseason there is. No discussion.. I love watching overtime as each team struggles to get that goal in sudden death overtime. Nothing beats the passion that both teams share in trying to get a victory in OT. If only it was televised on an actual network, rather than that Versus BS.
