Can South Florida Play for a National Championship….

Or at least have a legitimate shot at one? I guess that’s a rhetorical question given the Bulls are ranked sixth in the nation in the latest polls. Four weeks ago if anyone would’ve posed this question it would’ve been more comical than the troubles in South Bend, but in the first week of October it doesn’t seem like an off the radar question. And besides, if a judge can award Kevin Federline proud custody of his two ankle bitters he has with Britney, well, hell, anything is possible! I just hope monkeys don’t start flying out of my ass!
First Auburn fell victim to running with the Bulls and those couch burners from West Virginia, well, they went up in smoke! Yes, the same awwwwwwwww-burn who beat the Gators, (twice, I might add…After Urban Meyer acted just like that bitch that got tazed in G-Ville) oh yea, for the second consecutive year as well too! So before we begin looking at the national picture let’s start with the state of Florida. Is USF the best team in the state? The polls along with records would tell you they were, but are they really? Some still think Florida is…Without a doubt the Bulls are the second best in the state and I’m even going out on a limb here and going to say if USF had their shot at Tebow & Company, they’d come out on top!
What Jim Levitt has done in just over a decade on the Tampa campus is nothing short of remarkable! Building a program in itself is a monumental task…Nonetheless doing it in a state which has "The Big Three"! Well, it’s no longer "The Big Three"…Rather "The Big Four"! Some may reference to the job that the peeps out in Boise have done bringing the Broncos to the national landscape…Only difference, sorry Smurf fans, USF has a better situation going for them. True, Boise State set precedence last year knocking off Oklahomo to show little guys can compete on the same level as the big boys…Appy State showed it too. However, where South Floridas situation differs is the fact that they play in a much respective and competitive conference! A conference which gets national respect…This isn’t some Waffle House Conference like the MWC. Where Boise State never had a legitimate shot at playing for a national title.
So last year we had Rutgers from the Big East doing the same thing as USF is currently doing…Difference is people were hesitant to buy in. They waited for them to stumble and eventually they did. However, let’s ask ourselves this…If there was no Rutgers last year, would South Florida be getting this much attention from voters? Most likely not! However, the fact is they are indeed getting this attention…Now can they compete with the likes of USC & LSU? It’s very debatable! Nobody knows, but with so much parity across the country who’s to say no! Although, they did man handle the number four team in the nation last Friday…And oh yeah, beat the team that the defending National Champions haven’t beaten in the past two seasons.
All I know is this is the true essence of college football…Debates galore! Pigskin at it’s finest! Who’s to say USF doesn’t have a realistic chance of playing for a National Championship when Kevin Federline was sought to be a worthy parent!
