CFL News, Rumors, and Injuries

You will have to excuse me, I was unable to watch any of the games this week. Except for brief parts of the British Columbia Lions/Edmonton Eskimos game. The game recaps are the official recaps of www.cfl.ca.
In almost every game, there were serious injuries on one side or both that hampered overall game play. The only team that escaped injury this week seemed to be the Montreal Alouettes.
Even fans are getting hurt. The news is still a bit sketchy, but it seems that a fan died during Winnipeg Blue Bombers/Hamilton Tiger-Cats game. The CFL Commissioner, Tom Wright, issued the following statement. "This is a difficult and tragic day for all of us across the CFL. We all understand the importance and significance of the fans, who are our greatest supporters." As of right now, there is no further information on the incident.
As the still only undefeated team of the current CFL season, Montreal is the clear favorite for this year's Grey Cup. Winnipeg and B.C. are two games back, with the Calgary Stampeders three back.
Calgary was able to return some key players to their active roster, RB David Allen, LB Brian Clark, WR Ken-Yon Rambo, S Trey Young, and the addition of NFL veteran WR Ron Johnson.
The Toronto Argonauts are almost completly decimated due to injuries. As I reported earlier, the Argos have had 26 players on the injured list for at least one game this year. The team's key injuries are to QB Damon Allen, 1 RB Ricky Williams, 2 RB John Avery, and 3 RB Jeff Johnson.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders had some banged up personnel, but they played through the pain. An official injury report is not available at this time. The 'Riders just played a bad game visiting Calgary this week.
At this point in the season, Toronto, Hamilton, and Edmonton need to find a way to win. Somebody needs to find a way to beat Montreal. And the referees need to find a way to manage the players on the field better. Or better yet, the league office needs to enforce heavier penalties on players that commit helmet-to-helmet hits. Too many offensive players have been injured this year due to that kind of hitting.
