CFL Canadian Draft
The Canadian College Draft (also known as the CFL Canadian Draft, CFL College Draft or simply CFL Draft) is an annual sports draft in which the teams of the Canadian Football League (CFL) select eligible Canadian/non-import players, which in accordance with CFL rules make up approximately half of each CFL team's roster. The players drafted typically from the ranks of college football in either the CIS or NCAA. Since 1997, the draft has consisted of six rounds, with teams selecting in reverse order of their placement in the previous season.
"Import" players (primarily Americans) are not subject to the CFL draft. If they have not previously played in the CFL, imports are considered free agents and may sign with any CFL club.
The draft was formerly held as part of annual league meetings in Hamilton, and occasionally televised. In recent years the draft has typically been held via conference call. In 2007, the league produced a free webcast of the event, hosted by Duane Forde and Mike Hogan.
