For those of you out there who may not have heard, John Daly has taped a commercial for Maxfli golf balls in which he sings in a bar while people are drinking beer and later grabs a beer while he's driving a golf cart. If you don’t love Big JD there’s something wrong with you! He exemplifies everything a golfer shouldn’t be, but yet he is one. What’s not to love about this overweight, chimney chain smoker, Hooters frequent visitor, don’t give a rats ass about losing it all in casinos, not afraid to belt out a couple notes, whose wife has been in the slammer for money laundering, racketeering, what even the hell it was, showed the nation that TrimSpa doesn’t actually work, who’s best friend is Jack Daniel’s…What a guy! All this and he still knows how to play golf with the best of them…That is, when he’s not suffering from withdrawals & battling the shakes, who still has managed to captured two majors. Man, what a bio, huh? Damn, if you really think about it, he’s the true America Idol…So what’s there not to love, huh, CBS?
Apparently CBS isn’t a big fan of JD’s new Maxfli spot and states that it violates network policy by showing irresponsible consumption of alcohol and refuses to show it. "It did not meet the standards of the CBS network," spokeswoman LeslieAnn Wade said Tuesday. "Any implied or direct reference to excessive consumption of alcohol would not meet network guidelines." Yeah, and neither does an Oakland Raider game, but you televise those. Yet, this is the same network in which employs Billy "Fudge" Packer and now you want to discuss the CBS standards? Give me a break! "Irresponsible" you say…Isn’t this the same network who sends 12, (or how many ever there are) "lucky" individuals out into the back forty…To a place that nobody has ever heard of before to see if they can survive for a month by doing dumbass shit in hopes of getting to eat for that day or week? Wow, I’m so glad to see starving people is a form of entertainment in CBS’s eyes, but the "consumption of alcohol" is dubbed "irresponsible". All this coming from the same network whose during their football & the NCAA Tournament telecasts has no problem what so ever of showing beer ads. Although I guess that’s totally different, right? It’s not like those are showing peeps reaching for a beer while driving a golf cart…No, instead they just demand that everybody drink their horse piss to get shit faced in the process! Big difference, right LeslieAnn? Is the difference also golf is so to speak "a rich person game". Oh, I get it…This radical behavior is no place for the country club, right?
The commercial has aired on the Golf Channel, but it has been criticized for showing Daly reaching for a beer while driving a golf cart, which some consider dangerous. Yeah, Jimmie Johnson knows far too well about the dangers that lie on a golf course while reaching for "another" brew while riding "somewhere", (this being the key word) on the cart. Look, why is this such a big deal? So, Daly’s reaching for a beer…It’s not like he was reaching for a blunt! Is he the only one that drinks beer on the golf course? Hell no! It’s a given fact in which everybody knows, the more beer one consumes during a round of golf, well the better he plays! Thank goodness for cart girls…Helping deliver those beer goggles, so when we look down to address our ball we see three.
Some have also questioned why Maxfli is juxtaposing, (I know, big word) Daly considering he loves chilling with Jack. The marketing director for Maxfli golf balls said, "We looked at John Daly as someone who lights up a room, not someone with a troubled past." Lights up a room, perhaps with his lighter…To me it’s more like an eclipse when he enters a room. Although, I do agree…If you can’t make fun of yourself, well, who can you make fun of? Regardless, why not make fun of yourself and get paid while doing it? Big John isn’t a dummy! Honestly though, this is who Daly really is…A beer drinker who just happens to play on the PGA Tour. He’s a big time name who has battled demons in the public eye because of his profession. CBS should be embracing him and realizing he’s one of golf’s biggest names…They should be eager to have him assist in help promoting the game of golf in radical ways as only he can! The Golf Channel seems to have no issues about capitalizing on his popularity…Why does CBS? YouTube has even taken a trip out to the Daly Planet!
