Byron Browne (Byron Ellis Browne) was born on December 27, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1965 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1966, his rookie year, he hit .243 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI. Browne played for the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Byron Browne's best season was 1966, when he slugged 16 home runs and knocked in 51 runs.

  • Selected by Chicago Cubs from Pittsburgh Pirates in the first-year minor league draft (December 2, 1963).
  • Traded by Chicago Cubs to Houston Astros in exchange for Aaron Pointer (May 4, 1968).
  • Sold by Houston Astros to St. Louis Cardinals (February 12, 1969).
  • Traded by St. Louis Cardinals with Tim McCarver, Joe Hoerner and Curt Flood to Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Jerry Johnson, Dick Allen and Cookie Rojas (October 7, 1969); Curt Flood refused to report to Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals sent Willie Montanez (April 8, 1970) and Bob Browning (August 30, 1970) to complete trade.
