By A Show of Hands, Who Cares About the Tour De France?

I sure as hell don't. I actually had more interest in the hype before the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Seriously, without Lance Armstrong in it, what is there to root for?

Even with Armstrong, as amazing a story as it was, it really didn't captivate anyone to watch anything outside of occasional highlights on the television.

It doesn't help that the Tour de France is shown on OLN, and, come one, who watches OLN? I never do.

The only reason I would even remotely pay attention to this unbelievabley bad borefest is to find out wbat new drugs these Frenchmen are using.

I actually watched it back when Armstrong was going for his 6th and 7th Tour de France titles, but last year turned out to be a joke. It can be interesting at times, like when a group breaks away from the peleton, but most of the time, there's nothing to captivate the casual viewer's attention.

I still care about the Tour. My level, however, is at a near decade old low.

I first started following the Tour with Greg LeMond in 89. I knew about Lance Armstrong and was hoping he would one day win it - back in 1993 when he won the Bike race in Philadelphia. His performance at the 96 Olympics and Tour made it seem like there was something wrong. When it came out that it was cancer, I though he was done for. I was wrong, and follwoed Armstrong 7 victories at the Tour.

I still had grea interest last year, and was rooting hard for Landis to win. But since that disaster broke, my interest hasn't been the same.
