Its Buy or sell time again folks, and it looks like today’s agenda has the potential to bring out some fireworks. Considering the up-coming holiday, this sounds like its going to turn out pretty good. Today’s targets range from America’s pastime to everyone else’s, and so, without further adieu:
Buy or Sell
Brett Myers Beating
As evidenced by numerous articles ranging from both local newspapers (Boston and Philadelphia) and major news sources, (SI & ESPN), Brett Myers was charged with assault relating to him supposedly attacking his wife. Now, being from outside Philly originally and living in Boston for the past three years, I feel as though I can sympathize with each of the cities’ characters during this. Needless to say, the event occurred on Boylston street, a street I am all to familiar (or unfamiliar) with. As such, a considerable amount of consumption occurs on this street (and many, many others) which leads me to believe that there was a significant amount of intoxicated people. I think my point is, that I whole-heartedly agree that what he did was wrong, but there aren’t many people who really know what happened and of those, how many do you supposed were under the influence? More importantly, while Myers has been proven guilty in the court of public opinion, he hasn’t in the actual judicial system and therefore he is innocent. Once again, let me stress, I am not defending his actions. He point is though, is that we don’t know what happened and until we do, I don’t believe any action should be taken (legal or via MLB). If this were true, Barry Bonds would no longer be in baseball. Worse so, while listening to WEEI today, Sox fans were going on and on about this. Now, I usually try to avoid bashing other fans (Except Cowboys’ fans, those people are just plain dumb), but these fans need to stop jumping the gun. I know its tradition up here, but seriously, take a little time before you make a decision. Listen, I’m not defending hitting your wife, but you need to hear the whole story before you make a conclusion.

A Full Deck of Red and Yellow Cards
After watching yesterdays Portugal Vs. The Netherlands match during the World Cup, I’ve decided I’ve seen quite enough of this color-coded crap. Listen guys, giving out warnings is fine, but the definition is so thin, that I’m not sure what merits not only removal from the game, but from the next game. Listen, its fine to kick a player out for an illegal hit or intent to injure, but because he made a little heavy slide tackle which resulted in the other player flopping like fat baby is just crazy. First of all, if anyone should be ejected, it should be the whiny little guys that complain every time someone hits their shin guards. Even in most American sports, you need to do quite a bit to get kicked out, in soccer you go at the guy a little to hard and wham, you’re gone. I’m not expert, but I think this system sucks, and for it to not only effect this game, but the next is ludicrous.

Great 128?
In a recent ESPN article, Field of 128?, ESPN has learned that there is support to increase the NCAA tournament to 128 teams. At first I thought this would dilute the value of the season, but really, the addition of an extra 64 teams only extends the tourney another 2 or 3 days and would create a lot more parity. For the most part, I imagine the first round would be less of a crap shoot then it is now, but the potential for major bubble teams and bubble perennial contenders to get in is great. I think you could increase the value of basketball at a lot of schools if they made the tournament. Myles Brand, NCAA President, seems to be against the issue, but doesn’t have much backing that. Regardless, the upside here is great and while I don’t think it will happen, I would love to see the great 128.

Buy 128 teams
The Showdown
With the newest movement sweeping Armchairgm, the showdown gives a few writers the opportunity to open the debate and let the others decide. Its my belief that the system may start off a little flawed, but once the kinks are worked out, this will be an excellent way to really prove (Or disprove) a point. The real question is, how intense will the rivalries get and how far can this idea be taken
