Born on May 23, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana, Butch Metzger (Clarence Edward Metzger) played for the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets over the course of his 5 year career. Metzger broke into the bigs on September 8, 1974 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 2.92 ERA in 123.1 innings pitched in 1976, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Butch Metzger's best season was 1976, when he posted a 2.92 ERA, won 11 games, notched 16 saves and struck out 89 batters.
