Bush: Top Pick of the South

Now that I have concluded my fantasy analysis of the NFC, I will rate the top players from each division then move into top players from the entire conference.

This was definitely the surprise division of the 2006 season. A couple of rookies emerged on the scene and a few veterans reappeared proving that they are capable of leading their respective teams. Depending on your leagues format this division may only feature one first round fantasy selection. However, each player in the rated 1-9 has the ability to add tremendous depth and stability to any fantasy roster.

Here is a list of top fantasy producers from the NFC South division. My rankings are based on each skill position player who is worthy of a fantasy draft selection along with the value of team defenses, kickers and where they rate in terms of fantasy production for the 2007 season.

1.  Reggie Bush : There is no question that Bush leads this division now and for years to come. After posting a +1300 yard season as a rookie Bush will surpass those numbers before his 12th game in 2007. Bush’s carries will increase and his threat as a receiver will continue to add value to his fantasy stock. In a twelve team league Bush should not make it out of the first round.

2.  Drew Brees : He will only get better from here on out. One of the top 5 QB’s in the league and with the weapons surrounding him look for another fantastic season from Brees.

3.  Steve Smith : It isn’t difficult explaining why Smith is the best receiver in this division. If the underachieving Panthers from 2006 show any glimpse of dominance like they are capable of, Smith should have the best season of his career. If not, he still remains at the top of this list.

4. Cadillac Williams : The entire Bucs franchise struggled last season and as a result, Williams got a taste of the “sophomore slump”. With stability at QB this season look for this 3rd year pro to emerge as one of the top RB’s in the league.

5.  Michael Vick : At one time Vick was ranked relatively high on most draft boards. He remains a top QB in the league, however, I also believe Vick’s stock has dropped causing him to fall as low as 5th in this division.

6.  Jeff Garcia

7.  Deuce McAllister

8.  Joey Galloway

9.  Marques Colston

10.Warrick Dunn (early season)

11.DeAngelo Williams

12.Jerious Norwood (Sleeper of the draft)

DEFENSE :

1.  Carolina Panthers

2.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3.  New Orleans Saints

4.  Atlanta Falcons

KICKERS :

1.  John Kasay

2.  John Carney

You might be right about that in Garcia's case but he does add a ton of value to an organization that will heavily compete in the South. Not knowing yet how many carries Williams will get, I have to rate him lower. Foster still runs hard and is a capable back. Colston is known these days and unless he is a superstar, he's where he should be. He's definitely below Galloway now that he has a capable QB.

Michael Vick may be a federal dogpound (sp?) before the end of the NFL season.

True on Vick. Hey, I like Colston also, but with Bush getting so many catches I had to rank Galloway ahead of him. We'll see I could be wrong

Michael Vick may be a little pre-occupied with other matters rather than preparing to quarterback in the NFL this season. Just a hunch.

I agree and didn't want to put him 5th overall. But, 5 in this division is like 50th in the NFL. He's worth a 50th pick right? Maybe not, that's the 5th round. No, he'll be fine! Just not as high as many had him, with or without the distraction.

No way bush has 1,300 before week 12. He'll get somewhere close to 1,500 at the end of the season at best
