Former Manchester United star of the Matt busby years died yesterday at the age of 72. His death was repoted on the Mancheter United website this morning. Doherty, who only appeared for the Reds 26 times scoring 7 goals, will be remembered mostly for his contributions in Matt Busby's first League title winning team in the 1955/56 season. His career was was cut short at the young age of 23 due to a chronic knee injury that he could never shake.
He has remained an active part of Manchester United and was given the honour of bringing the Premeirship trophy out on the Old Trafford pitch with the rest of the surviving Busby Babes last Spring.
Rest in peace.
