Born on August 18, 1893 in Emerald, Wisconsin, Burleigh Grimes (Burleigh Arland Grimes) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Robins, New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees over the course of his 19 year career. Grimes broke into the bigs on September 10, 1916 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.53 ERA in 194 innings pitched in 1917, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Burleigh Grimes's best season was 1920, when he posted a 2.22 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 131 batters.
