Burgess Whitehead (Burgess Urquhart Whitehead) was born on June 29, 1910 in Tarboro, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on April 30, 1933 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1934, his rookie year, he hit .277 with 1 home run and 24 RBI. Whitehead played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Burgess Whitehead's best season was 1936, when he hit for a .278 average.
