Born on June 30, 1957 in San Mateo, California, Buddy Black (Harry Ralston Black) played for the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 15 year career. Black broke into the bigs on September 5, 1981 with the Seattle Mariners, and put up a 4.58 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched in 1982, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Buddy Black's best season was 1984, when he posted a 3.12 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 140 batters.
