Bud Selig Will Attend Bonds' Games

by PCrary

Selig has said that he will attend Barry Bonds' games until the record is broken. He will travel with the Giants while Bonds chases Hank Aaron's All-Time home run record of 755.

Selig has not said whether or not he will be part of any on-field celebration once the Home Run is hit.

This is the absolute correct thing for the Commissioner to do.

Although Bonds is highly suspected to have taken steroids, he is a U.S. citizen and is innocent until proven guilty, just like Selig said.

This is arguably the biggest record in all of sports, and if Selig wasn't there, it would have given fans a little bit of unsureness as to how to celebrate the record. Now that Selig is going fans will understand just how big of deal this whole thing is.

In a time where sports headlines are filled with dog fighting scandals, shootings, and fixed games. It's refreshing to finally see something that will actually happen on the field be backed by the commissioner, and have people talking about athletes playing their sport, and not what they do off the field or court.

Make no mistake ... Selig is not backing Bonds' chase for the record. He's merely there because he realizes it's his job and he'll suffer a terrible public backlash if he didn't. Selig had no choice but to attend; he's not in any way supporting or backing Bonds in this.

Why won't he back Bonds? This is a great time in sports! None of you Bonds haters have any proof of him doing roids. You all hate him because the media tells you too. He's done no wrong until he is proven that he did wrong. THANKS! GO BONDS!

Actual proof is lacking, yes. But the circumstances and the innuendo surrounding the slugger are quite damning. Just read Game of Shadows ... all of which came from leaked grand jury testimony.

That said, I think Bonds is being unfairly ripped to an extent. Cast him under a cloud of steroid suspicion ... but he is by far the only one. What about a certain 44-year-old pitcher in New York who just kept getting better (and bigger) with age? What about a slugger in Texas who's seemingly found his power stroke again? What about someone who joined the 3,000-500 club, only to actually test positive for 'roids two weeks later?

And lest we forget -- of all the players who've tested positive for steroids, at least half of them were pitchers. If Bonds is guilty of steroids, then so is a good deal of the rest of baseball. And Selig and his owners' posse is just as responsible for not nipping this thing in the bud when it first started.

In 1988, Jose Canseco admitted to using steroids and said he wasn't the only one ... it was swept under the rug. He kept saying so for years, even wrote a book on the subject, but it wasn't until Congress butted in that baseball took things seriously. If Bonds did steroids (and I think he did), then he deserves to be punished for it -- because hello, steroids are ILLEGAL. But he is far from the only guilty party.

Isee your point, but innuendos are about as useful as hearsay. As for 'Game of Shadows', how do you knwo that was made up and twisted? For all we know they could be lying and using their own words merely using the jury leak as basis for support.

It goes back to when Aaron was about to break Ruth, no one wanted it, he got death threats and people considered Ruth the onyl homerun king. No one ever wants to see this record broken.

My reasoning is look at Griffey Jr. he has 587 home runs, if not marred by injuries, It would be Griffey at this point as well, would he be getting cat-calls for steroid use? no, because he is MEDIA friendly. Bonds isn't. NOw we're talking A-Rod, on his current pace (keyword CURRENT) could hit 900 career HRs (he won't but, let's use this for the argument). Is he going to get accused of Roiding? Probably not becuse he's MEDIA FRIENDLY. Lastly, I keep hearing about Ryan Howard being on steroids, and now Sheffield. These claims are ridiculous now.

When i get cold hard proof Bonds did roids, I'll bow out, admit I was wrong and fight for him to be removed. Until then, he's the (soon to be) home run king.

If Bonds breaking Aaron's record is a "high point" in the world of sports, then hell has indeed frozen over.
