Buckeyes Will Reign Supreme

I don't care what others may say I think that OHIO STATE will be on top again. I can't wait til that September Saturday when they get hold of TEXAS and wrangle up some beef!

Even with the loss of Santonio Holmes the offense will roll. I think it may even be better this year with just Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. That way you don't have to try to work Holmes in the mix and it opens up more touches for Ginn. The rushing attack will be relied upon a bit more you may think. But it will be up to the task.

The big test, of course, will come on the defensive side of the ball. With the losses of A.J. HAWK, BOBBY CARPENTER and cast, the new starters will have to step it up a notch to replace the lost talent. I look for the offense to have to score more to keep up with the points the defense gives up this year.

Look out Michigan - Here we come! Michigan is the only bump in the road I see that could stop an undefeated season for the Buckeyes.

Everybody sing: "No we don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan. No we don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan we're from O-HI-O."

Watch out for Penn State. They are the sleeping Lions again this year.

Yeah they may be around when we play them but I don't think it will be close at all.

Dude - except for the 1994 game, I believe all PSU-OSU have been close affairs. Lets not get too cocky now. OSU did lose most of their defense to graduation.

OSU has a great team this year, need a few guys to step up and fill some holes on defense. However, they have a stout schedule, Texas cannot be slept on neither can Penn State. Also dont forget the Hawkeyes have put together a solid team that want to steal a part of that title also.

"I don't care what others may say." The Buckeye's are ranked #1 in just about every pre-season poll. For once, we Buckeye fans don't have to be on the defensive. Calm down and enjoy it while it lasts. :-)

It's going to be a dogfight between Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin again this year. The Badgers have the best offensive line in the Big Ten and a defense that should be much, much improved over last season. Arguably the best linebackers of any team in the Big Ten now that Hawk is gone. They proved they can be a force on defense when they kicked Auburn's ass in the Capital One Bowl last year. I'm almost sad that the Badgers don't play the Buckeyes this year, Badgers have had the Bucks number lately.

It's kind of surprising to me that not a lot of people are giving Texas a chance in that game. They still can't get their due, even when they win a championship. I'm really looking forward to this game (and being a new UT student, I'll get to be there!) UT is excellent at home. They have significant losses on offense, but the Buckeyes had significant losses on defense. I really think this will be another great game.

As a Michigan fan, I was decided not to comment on this story until I saw this. I've decided to stay away from talking about Ohio State and instead respond to this comment. Though Texas was the national champion last year, the reason for the perception that they won't be as good this year is the loss of Vince Young. Other major losses are Jonathan Scott, Michael Huff, Cedric Griffin and David Thomas. I'm worried that their game will be too one-dimensional for them to be a contender this year.

I'm not arguing that they're going to be a contender, I'm just saying that I don't think they'll suffer such a huge dropoff as people expect. They are returning three excellent running backs, a young and rapidly improving receiving corp, most of their offensive and defensive lines, and a lot of other good defensive players. The importance of losing Vince Young can't be overemphasized, but Vince is not the reason they had a top-10 defense last year. They had tools outside of Vince Young. I'm not under the dilusion that they'll compete with a first year starting QB, I'm just saying I think they'll give OSU a run for their money.

By the way, let me emphasize what I mean about expectations for Texas. When analysts were talking about whether or not Vince would return, they had them as the undisputed pre-season number one with VY, but had them somewhere around 9th or 10th, or even lower, if he didn't return. But, in the same conversations, KNOWING that Leinart, White and Bush (among others) were leaving USC, preseason predictions had them around number four. I thought that was a really strange difference, that one team could lose what analysts perceive as all their weapons, and drop eight spots, but that another team could lose all their perceived weapons and still be a top five team.

By the way, have I said on this site that of all college football fans, I find Ohio State fans to be the most obnoxious? I'm serious. I've never talked to a group of college fans that is more obnoxious, callous and homerish than Ohio State fans.
