Buck Ewing (William Ewing) was born on October 17, 1859 in Hoagland, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1880 for the Troy Trojans. In 1881, his rookie year, he hit .250 with 0 home runs and 25 RBI. Ewing played for the Troy Trojans, New York Gothams, New York Giants, Cleveland Spiders and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 18 year career.

Most people believe that Buck Ewing's best season was 1893, when he stole 47 bases, hit for a .344 average and knocked in 122 runs.
