Bryant Gumbel Out For Thursday Night Football

Ahh.....you thought it was a permanent move eh? Confess! They skinnier mouse voiced brother of Greg has a sore throat, and he will not be the commentator for the Broncos/Texans game tomorrow night. Bryant will take some time to rest, as he gets ready to enlighten us even more with brilliant football knowledge with Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders for......Bengals/49ers on Saturday. Of course, that game is very irrelevant, so thankfully no one would watch it. Here is what the Houston Chronicle reported:

NFL Network play-by-play announcer Bryant Gumbel is suffering from a sore throat and will be replaced by Tom Hammond for Thursday's Broncos-Texans broadcast at Reliant Stadium, a network spokesman said Tuesday.

Hammond will join Cris Collinsworth, with whom he called a playoff game last year for NBC, for the NFL Network broadcast, said network spokesman Seth Palansky.

Gumbel, meanwhile, will rest up for the network's Saturday night game between the Bengals and 49ers. He will work the game with Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk as Collinsworth prepares for his Sunday job on NBC's Football Night in America.

This is the second time in as many seasons that NFL Network has had to shuffle announcer lineups because of illness. Last December, analyst Dick Vermeil was unable to work the second half of a Cowboys-Falcons game because of throat problems and was replaced by Sanders and Faulk.

Tom Hammond and Collinsworth...that sounds 300 times better than Gumbel. So now you can relax and enjoy a key wild card game in the AFC....if you have the NFL Network.

Sore throat? Confirms the rumors on how Gumbel even got the job in the first place.

It's probably because he has too much excitement in his voice.

That bit about Stern gurgling water while yapping about "WWWWWNNNNNNNBBBBBBBBBCCCCCCCCCC" on the air comes to mind for some reason.

We used to have a Seahawks radio man named Brian Davis. A player could be celebrating for 10 seconds, at that point he'd say "inside the 5".

Brian Davis was a clone of Jim Rome!
