Browns Lose Third Center of Preseason

11
Vote

After loosing LeCharles Bentley to injury and having Bob Hallen suddenly retire, the Cleveland Browns have lost Alonzo Ephraim from their list of possible starting centers. Ephraim has been suspended for four games for violating the league substance-abuse policy, according to reports out of Cleveland.

Ross Tucker, acquired via trade from the New England Patriots last week is currently the Browns number one option.

Apparently Ephraim's violation occurred in 2005 while he was with the Miami Dolphins, said one source, and according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, carries over to the Browns.

This is total crap. Why should the Browns pay for Miami not keeping their players under control? Wouldn't the Browns have known about this before aquiring him? As if the Browns haven't suffered enough this preseason already...

I'd be very surprised if they had no idea... If they didn't shame on them. THey should be doing better business.

Have no idea about what, exactly? That he was going to be suspended? If they had known that they wouldn't have acquired him. Surely they knew he had violated leaguge substance abuse laws in the past but they decided to take a chance. Do you fault the Dolphins for letting Ricky Williams come back?

Hmmm I was wondering why, after playing well enough last week against Philly, Ephraim was mysteriously not considered as an option anymore. I guess now we know.

As one Cleveland fan said, "Do we even really need a center?"

That makes sense, they haven't had one for the last 12 years, why should they need one now?

The Browns should take a cue from the cover of SI and deal for Fraley of the Eagles.

If I were Fraley, I would run screaming at the thought of playing center for the Browns. I mean seriously, if you're this Tucker kid (Browns' current starting center), aren't you pretty freaked out right now?

All joking aside, the sad thing about this is the Browns looked to have a pretty darn good offensive line in place with Bentley anchoring things. Add to that the weapons they have reacquired in Winslow and Edwards getting healthy and there were a lot of high hopes for the Browns this year. What a shame to feel the season is over before the first game has even been played. Right now we're waiting for basketball season.

I find it funny that the media does in fact seem to recognize the lunacy of our center situation, yet none of them seem to be aware of the Bob Hallen fiasco. I've heard I don't know how many people comment on how the Browns have gone through TWO centers before the season even starts. Sorry to break it to you, guys, but we're on number four. Just imagine how hilarious they would find it all if they stopped sucking on TO for a minute and took a gander up at Cleveland. Anyway, for the record, the Browns are on their FOURTH (4TH) starting center as they prepare for their second preseason game tomorrow.
