This game was billed as the "The Battle of the Back-up" quarterbacks.

With British Columbia Lions top QB Dave Dickenson sitting on the bench with a high ankle sprain, back up quarterback Buck Pierce led the vaunted Lions offense.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers top pivot, Kevin Glenn was also out of the game after having arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday. Replacing Glenn was the number 2 QB Mike Quinn.

Quinn should have stayed on the bench. He threw four interceptions and fumbled the ball twice.

Pierce, on the other side, ran for a touchdown but also threw a couple of picks.

The game was ugly. The game featured 13 turnovers - nine of those by the Blue Bombers.

Final stat leaders for both teams are not available.

BC stat leaders. Buck Pierce was 26 of 41 for 282 yards. K Paul McCallum went 6/7 on field goals. *McCallum conceded a safety late in the fourth quarter.

Winnipeg stat leaders. Mike Quinn was 13 of 26 for 137 yards. K Troy Westwood was 1/1 on field goals.
