Bring on demBums! (and other ruminations)

=== LA is due in Shea for a big three-game series this weekend. The Dodgers playing the Mets always causes me to reflect on growing up on Long Island among Yankee, Dodger and Giant fans. Those of you who grew up in the great Northwest really don't know about the rabid rivalries in the 60s (there were still Dodger and Giant fans despite the teams' escape to the left coast before the '58 season). My mom was a Giants fan, my Grandma a Dodgers fan, and for some unknown reason, my Dad was an Orioles fan! The Orioles, by the way, had a tremendous pitching staff in those years--Palmer, Dobson, Cuellar and McNally all won 20 or more games in the '71 campaign. Anyway, let's hope the Mets' bullpen doesn't implode again (I'm really starting to get mad at Heilman!).

The Mariners continue to surprise me. After last night's impressive 9-4 win over the hapless Rangers they are now only 1 game behind the LA Angels of Anaheim (I promise to NEVER write or say that abomination of a name again!) and 2 games ahead of the Yankees (suck). I really look forward to September and October this year--imagine if the Mets and Mariners meet in the Fall Classic!

What's with Tiger not teeing it up at the Barclay's?

Mariners have been a surprise despite Felix Hernandez being on disabled list earlier this season. With Suzuki already having 188 hits he is almost sure thing barring injury to have 200 hits again and with Ibanez, Beltre and Sexson hitting behind him they are sure to score a lot of runs.
