Bring In Technology For Cricket

The recently concluded Natwest Series ended in a farce with England running away with the match by 7 wickets. India managed a paltry 187 with Dhoni getting a crucial 50. England got off to a poor start with both openers sent back to the pavillion for zero. Captain Collingwood (64*) and man of the match, Kevin Pieterson (71*)steadied the ship and took England to victory.

The main talking point about this whole series was the umpiring. After six brilliant one day games that were keenly contested and built up for a huge final, ended on a damp note. This was thanks to umpire Aleem Dar who had two crucial wrong decisions, giving Dravid and Tendulkar out caught behind. Tendulkar had been in scintilating form the whole series and looked good for yet another big score, before being shockingly given out. From 50/1 India slumped to 70/4, game practically over.

It wasn't the first time Tendulkar had been wrongly given out this whole series including the test matches. An LBW, off Collingwood in a test, the caught behind on 99 at Bristol and the final at Lords were just a few of the harsh decisions he faced. Remarkable of him to still keep his cool and carry on playing. Many players would have just got fed up after so muh injustice.

They have the third umpire for run outs and stumpings. I feel they should have it for all other dismissals as well. All the umpire has to do is ask for the third umpire when in doubt. It will make the game a lot more fairer. I don't blame umpires in most cases because it is not an easy job giving these close calls, but there is a limit to human error and when technology is available, then why not use it.

I disagree 100% with you. If batsmen walked when they were out (as they used to), then there wouldn't be a problem. Nowadays, the attitude is to make the umpires make a decision. So, if you're going to try and cheat in the first place by getting away with something when you're out, you have to be prepared to take the pain of getting out when you're not. In my opinion, you deserve it. And the players probably know as much, so Tendulkar will get over it. He'll have just as many decisions go his way in his career that shouldn't.

You shouldn't use technology; the game is slow enough as it is. With India and Pakistan claiming about 3 lbws and over, you'll only get through about 60 overs in a day.

And to be honest, India didn't deserve the win yesterday. England were strong in the field, and India lacked the ability to battle. Ganguly's innings was probably one of the worst of the series, he edged practically everything. And he was completely shaken by Anderson with the short stuff. And Mascarenhas bowled 10 overs for 23. India were poor with the ball after the initial breakthroughs. England were the better team yesterday.

England were definitely the better team yesterday and thoroughly deserved the victory. You are right when stating that the game is slow without the use of technology anyway. If a person walks when he is out, but is still given out when he is not later on sometime, then surely he will stop walking. Gilchrist faced a lot of flak when he continued to walk when the umpire didnt think he was out. Im sure there is a better ay to handle this problem. Ganguly has performed badly this whole series from my point of view. Sure he's got the runs but its come at a terrible pace and he's always thrown his wicket away. His comebback to the team is purely self beneficial and to prove a point to his crictics at the cost of the team. His past innings have proven it.

Honesty would avoid any umpiring messes. Maybe not with lbws, but with catches it would. So don't blame the umpire when it's the players fault for not being honest. If Ganguly was English, I'd want him in my team, but not as an opener. If you put him down in the middle order, then I think he'd be good enough. The age old problem for India however, is that they have no decent openers.

the human errors of cricket blance themselves out. For every caught behind an umpire misses theres an LBW that probably shouldnt have been out. This is what makes cricket the brilliant game it is. Lets not turn it into a clinical technology driven game.
