On August 1, disaster broke loose about four blocks away from the Metrodome, when the 35W Bridge collapsed killing at least seven, and injuring many others. The Minnesota Twins still played their game in order to keep 25,000 people in the stadium and away from the scene to allow rescue workers to help and try and save victims.
The Twins then canceled their Thursday matinée against the Royals, and their ground breaking ceremony for the new stadium.
Selig, MLB Commissioner, was planning on attending the ground breaking ceremony, to show that he was happy for the Twins success the past couple of years and the fact that they are building a new ball park.
With the cancelation of the ceremony, Selig will have to stay in Los Angeles and watch Barry Bonds go for his milestone Home Run. What if, Bonds hit it tonight when really Selig wanted to be in Minneapolis. So maybe if the bridge didn't collapse Bonds would have not hit it with Selig watching.
I don't know, I just thought that the whole bridge collapsing really does have an affect on more than what meets the eye. Lastly, baseball should obviously take a back seat to what happened yesterday and that my prayers are with the victims and their families.
