Born on October 7, 1867 in Bellaire, Ohio, Brickyard Kennedy (William Park Kennedy) played for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Superbas, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 12 year career. Kennedy broke into the bigs on April 26, 1892 with the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, and put up a 3.86 ERA in 191 innings pitched in 1892, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Brickyard Kennedy's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1893, when he posted a 3.72 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 107 batters. However, others believe that it was 1899, when he posted a 2.79 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 55 batters.
