Brewers Interested in Maddux?

In the first inning of tonight's FSN telecast of the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs, Brewers' play-by-play announcer Daron Sutton mentioned that the Chicago Tribune reported that the Brewers have inquired about the availability of Cubs' right-hander and future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, who started against the Brewers tonight.

Why would they want Maddux? He has been absolutely terrible since his 5-0 start and has run his ERA up to 5.

They'd want him because he is a Future Hall of Famer. That excites the fans, even if he doesn't deliver.

Why wouldn't they? It would probably be the first ever sibling pitching coach/pitcher combo. Mike Maddux is the pitching coach for the Brewers.

Didn't know that... that would be a good sentimental reason to go after Maddux.

IF and that's a slim IF Maddux is traded, he'll be going to a team that needs just 1 more pitcher to "put them over the top" to get into a playoff spot... like maybe the Dodgers or similar... however, with this year being his last contract year I believe, I think that he'll finish up his career with the Cubs - finish it where he started... the Cubs in a sense, screwed him over once already in his career I don't think they'll do it again... if Hendry does trade him, then he should be shot IMO Let him finish with style & grace - AT WRIGLEY nowhere else!

I wouldn't say the Cubs screwed him over. Maddux got the better end of the deal. How many times did he pitch in the postseason, or even a WS, or even win a WS compared to what he would have done had he stayed with the Cubs?

Yeah, as ASwaff said, Mike Maddux, Greg's brother, is the Brewers' pitching coach. I'd be astonished if he declined to finish his career with his brother on his team.

That would be awesome, to end your career playing side by side with your brother. Just like Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey, Jr.

I'm pretty sure Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. were not brothers...dude, you should check out a family tree!

And technically they wouldn't be playing side-by-side since one sits on the bench the whole game. They could, however, discuss holidays during mound visits, which is obviously a huge bonus.

Just wait -- Julio Franco is going to end his career playing on the same team as his grandson.

I also saw this story on ESPN.com Mike Maddux has been mentioned as one of the top 5 coaches in the entirety of baseball and is credited with helping several stars young and old get their act together. If anyone can help Greg out of his slump, you think it would be his brother.
